Today we are having our holiday luncheon at work. We were all asked to contribute and I made my famous chicken pesto pasta. I hope the work family enjoys it! Happy Friday and happy eating y’all.

I used this shot in yesterday’s food post. With a little enhancement, the old gal came to life. Thank God for second chances.

She Needed A Re-Touch!

Who gave u permission to rearrange me
certainly not me
who told you that it was alright to love me
certainly, certainly not me

I was not looking for no love affair
and now you wanna fix me
Was not looking for no love affair
and now you want to mold me
I was not looking for no love affair
now you wanna kiss me
Was not looking for no love affair
and now you wanna control me
hold me

I know you’re really trying to get creative with me love
and that’s alright, but
you tried to get a little tricky turned my back
and then you slipped me a mickey.

Certainly, certainly, certainly not me
Certainly, certainly, certainly not me
Certainly, certainly, certainly not me
Certainly, certainly, certainly not me

When I wake up (when I wake up)
I don’t need nobody telling me the time

The world of food blogging can be quite pretentious at times. As a blogger, you always feel the need to eat at the best restaurants, take the perfect mouth-watering shots, and seem like your food choices are always refined. Today is not one of those days. I’m sitting alone in a mall food court. Terrible holiday music is playing. And my meal is probably a bazillion calories. This entire situation would seem unworthy of any respectable blog. But yet here I am typing this post.

It’s quite refreshing to ditch the “fabulous”  blogging veil and share a real meal. None of my other food posts are fake but I don’t eat at cute downtown restaurants all the time. Sometimes I like to low brow it and get Chinese takeout from a nearby food court. The service is quick, the servers are friendly, and the food is always delicious. What more could a food lover want?

The next food post will definitely be classier -but for now- I’m reveling in this honest display of eating. Food always has a way of reflecting my true self. Sometimes I’m classy but sometimes I’m trashy…and I love it!

Happy Eating Y’all.

Tofu has been my saving grace these past few weeks. I’m on a vegetarian diet and it hasn’t been easy. The switch hasn’t been exactly hard but the absence of meat always makes me feel like my plate is missing something.

image

Luckily tofu has filled the void. I know tofu is old news and passe but it’s a beacon of shining light to me. Whenever I’m tempted to add meat to my dishes, I just add tofu. Not only am I receiving the much needed protein…mentally I’m satisfied because my plates look fuller.

image

But I have noticed that I’m spending more time and money at Asian restaurants. They have the best selection when it comes to vegetarian options. My American counterparts need to step their game up.

Brunch isn’t brunch if cocktails and friends aren’t involved. Cocktails have a way of increasing the fun factor of the meal and lead to candid conversations of weekend sexcapades. But picking the right spot is essential.

Cafe Strudel was my brunch choice this past Sunday and the spot was fantastic. Eclectic and local art decorate the walls. Trendy and hip downtowners come in and out. And a great selection of food makes Cafe Strudel oh so charming.

image

The location is big enough so you won’t feel cramped but small enough to entice you to mingle with fellow brunchers. It was my first time there but it won’t be my last. I opted for the ‘Hangover Hashbrowns’ and they were so good!

If you ever visit Columbia SC…visit Cafe Strudel for brunch. You won’t be disappointed. I’m dying to go back.
